The Ingenieur line was first introduced in 1955 by IWC Schaffhausen as a purpose-built tool watch engineered to resist magnetic fields. Designed for engineers, scientists, and technical professionals, it incorporated an iron inner case to protect the movement from magnetic interference — a defining feature that gave the collection its name and reputation.

In 1976, renowned watch designer Gérald Genta reshaped the identity of the Ingenieur with a bold integrated case and bracelet construction. His design language — characterized by the bezel and a strong, architectural profile — transformed the model into a modern icon.
